Windows Media player downloads codecs automatically when you play a file. If this option is disabled, go to Tools > Options > Player tab > Download codecs automatically, check the Automatic updates box, click OK and try to play the file again. If the file still cannot be played, it may require a codec that is not supported by Windows Media Player.
